Creative Thinking

Way back in the 1980s, Roger von Oech’s A Whack on the Side of the Head became a cult book for advertising and marketing professionals who were always looking for means to stimulate creative thinking in their teams.

As a fresh-out-of-college Trainee Copywriter in one of India’s best-known advertising agencies (the one where the legendary Satyajit Ray, among many other luminaries, used to work once upon a time), I was introduced to this book by my Creative Directors and for a while, the book became my constant companion.

A Whack on the Side of the Head tries to teach you how you can be more creative. In one section Oech recommends asking yourself What if questions. “Asking what if,” he says, “is an easy and powerful way to get your imagination going.”

On page 74 of my much-fingered, dog-eared volume of Oech’s book he describes an answer to the “what if” question:
What if we lived our lives backwards?

Life is tough. It takes up a lot of your time, all your weekends, and what do you get at the end of it? Death, a great reward.

The life cycle is all backwards. You should die first, and get it out of the way. Then you live for twenty years in an old age home, and get kicked out when you’re too young. You get a gold watch and then you go to work. You work forty years until you’re young enough to enjoy
your retirement.

You go to college and you party until you’re ready for high school. Then you go to grade school, you become a little kid, you play, you have no responsibilities, you become a little baby, you go back into the womb, you spend your last nine months floating, and you finish off as a gleam in somebody’s eye.

Needless to say, this was decades before Benjamin Button!

Von Oech’s book is about thinking out of the box or making new lines of flight where there were none by getting away from the usual pairing and opposition associations and igniting fresh and unusual neural pathways.

If you’re going to be good at communication, you have to think creatively and know without doubt that there is more than one correct answer to everything and more than one way to approach and solve a problem.

IF I WAS A FABRIC
it was a tough thing to choose a fabric i could be especially when theres so many different fabrics to choose from like cotton , wool, leather, silk, wood, leather, coir, jute, linen, ramie ..leave alone the artificial ones .... After a lot of thought i decided silk ..which is supposed to resemble elegance and beauty ..since i stay far from elegance (lets not talk about beauty) i decided i could have been a hemp fabric ... i can relate to its characteristics . it is best known for its warmth softness and durability .. i consider to be a person of warmth .. and even though i look like a skinny brinjal i consider my mind to be pretty strong .i play a lot of sports and participate in a lot of other activities (even though im not good at any but still ) if i was a fabric i d rather be ued in a variety of things like the hemp is used in not only cloathing but also shoes , furniture & accessories ..another fasinating character of hemp is that it is UV protective .. i would love to be UV protective keeping in mind the loss of greenhouse gases .. and lastly the finest hemp is produced in italy

OOH how i would love to be made in the trend setting country of the world

Mam, If I would have been given a choice as to which colour I would be, then I would select - "WHITE".

It is because it is a colour of purity, cleanliness, peace, innocence, kindness, truth and honesty. It is also a symbol of Loyal Love. Intrestingly, White is formed only when all the colours mix together so it has got all the colours in itself. I strongly believe in all the facts mentioned above when it comes to white and so I would be glad to be this colour.
We can put some white in our lives when we want to start a fresh begining, or to bring about mental clarity, or to clear clutter and obstacle away or purification of thoughts and actions.

IF I WAS A SONG.....
The moment ma'm assigned me dis activity the first thing that came to my mind was "ya ya i'll do it" but when i actually started thinking of myself in a song that would rightly bring out my nature i was thrown in a swirl of confusion
but it was not before long that i got the right song that depicts me-"koi kahe kehta rahe kitna bhi humko deewana, hum logo ke thokar mein hain ye zamana...jub saas hain aawaaz hain phir kis liye hichkichaana, gaayenge hum apne dilon ka tarana"
i am a very fun loving and jovial person who loves to hang out with friends .moreover I am very strong and know what is right for me,i am very firm of purpose and once decided nothing can come between me and my desires-"hamare liye hain toh aasmaan aur zameen ,sitare bhi hum tod lege humein hain yakeen".i am also very vocal about my thoughts-"jab saas hain aawaz hain phir kis liye hichkichaana".
Hence, the lyrics coupled with the mood and casulness of the song realtes me to it in perfect synchronisation.

if i was to become a CARTOON CHRACTER...which and why?

if i was to become a cartoon character...which is a dream of almost every child. then i would like to become SHIN CHAN NOHARA. He is a small boy belonging to the NOHARA family who stays with his parents and studies in kindergarten...
i would like to become SHIN CHAN because of an "internal desire" and "emotional attachment" his every viewer developes towards him.
The Most important being... That i dont want to miss any oppurtunity of getting back into my childhood days, since as experience say's its the best phase of mans LIFE.
Secondly I am already leading a life of a GIRL, I want to be a BOY child and do all those naughtiness which I was stopped while I was a girl. To mention few like playing in mud, beating others, staying at friends place for late hours and cycling alone in the narrow lanes of my neighbourhood...I don't say I regret being a girl, but experiencing the life of an opposite gender can be fun though.(especially when you get both in same life).
Thirdly, as seen in the series shin chan is always dressed in a "red t-shirt" and "yellow pants" whcich is quite bright and represnts young hood...and unlike evryday choices I would love to stay happy with what I have and tension free with the question "What to wear and where everyday?".
All though these are just few reasons to mention...as inspite of his naughtiness he does, he is able win the hearts of people all around him, and make his name in the young hearts and indead this makes me his great follower...
(Also i want to see how it is to tease girls, as he does with great ease)...
eventually at he end i want to have HAPP'Y'NESS... as he has in his life, so that when i am sad, i stop being sad and become AWESOME instead.(AWESOMENESS) like shin chan...

It is because it is a colour of purity, cleanliness, peace, innocence kindness, truth and honesty. It is a symbol of Loyal love. intrestingly, White is formed only when all the colours mixes together in equal proportions, so it has got all the colours in itself. When we pass white light through a prism then it gets dispersed into seven colours of that of a rainbow that is VIBGYOR. So being White actually has got all the characteristics of all the colours equally. I strongly believe in all the facts mentioned above when it comes to White and so I would be really gald to be this colour. "What if" i did'nt have my parents to look after me?

* No one has the time..infact no one bothers to see what others are doing..so i would realy miss them to show me the right path everytime when am disturbed or not have the capability to think beyond or when am not doing it well.

* I would have never got the chance to present my feelings more conviently than any other..parents are more than just a friend.

* I would have never got the chance to see my life in such an easy way...i get everything what i say and what i was wanted to say i.e. which was in my heart.

* I may have any no. of frinds or relative but every one will defenitly have this feeling once that wether they are getting any benifit from it or wether it is harmful to them in any way...this feeling i will never find in my parents they will rather die to just see me happy and that is why i respect them more than anyone in this world.

* Even if i become the most successful person on earth but i will still feel that a major part is missing in my life which is still making my life incomplete and unsatisfied, i.e., my parent's love...i can do anything in order to see them happy..anything!

What if I were to be a part of a book?
Ans)If I were to be a part of a book I would like to star in Pride and Prejudice, by Jane Austen. The reason for that would be:
I would be a part of turn-of-the century England, which is something I'm fascinated about to no end. The language, costumes, culture of that time is simply out of this world, and no matter what cannot be replicated. The way the women curtsied or the endearing chivalry of the men,I would have loved to be a part of all the extravaganza of those times. Moreover, Austen is a much celebrated author, who has a cult following and has been appreciated for eons...and will be loved for years to come.Often hailed as the best in her genre,it would be a dream come true for me to be a part of Austen's work, especially Pride and Prejudice.
